Domain Transfer to easyname Without Service Interruptions

If you want to transfer your domain including website and email addresses to easyname, you should follow the steps in the correct order. This way, outages of your website or email services can be avoided.

Note: Upon request, we can handle the domain and service transfer as part of our Premium Services. We first check whether a migration without interruptions is possible.
Warning: Only change nameservers or DNS records once the website, email addresses, and required DNS entries are prepared at easyname. Changing too early can cause the website or emails to be unreachable.
Note: This article differs depending on the system (CloudPit or Controlpanel). Please use the appropriate section.

Prepare Domain and Services in CloudPit

Add External Domain

First, add the domain as an external domain in CloudPit. The domain remains registered with the current provider.

Open your web hosting package in CloudPit. Click MORE and then Add External Domain.

CloudPit will show you an individual TXT record to verify ownership. This record begins with site-verification=.

Add this TXT record with your current DNS provider for the domain.

Once the TXT record is active, enter the domain in CloudPit and click Verify Ownership.

If the verification is successful, the external domain will be added in CloudPit.

Prepare DNS Records

Open MOREExternal Domain Setup for the external domain.

For an uninterrupted migration, first choose to keep DNS management with the current provider.

Then copy the required DNS records from the wizard and add them to your current DNS provider.

If you only want to use the email service from easyname, the following entries are typically needed in CloudPit:

Name Type TTL Priority Value
mail-in A 600 take from the wizard
MX 600 10 mx03.secure-mailgate.com
MX 600 10 mx04.secure-mailgate.com
TXT 600 v=spf1 a mx include:secure-mailgate.com ~all

You can request the DKIM record from support after setup and then add it to your current DNS provider.

Create Email Addresses and Mailboxes

If you want to keep email addresses from the previous provider, create them in CloudPit before switching.

To do this, open EmailEmail Addresses in your web hosting package and create the needed addresses and mailboxes.

Transfer Website

Transfer the website data and, if applicable, the databases to easyname.

More information can be found here: How can I transfer my website to easyname?

Start Domain Transfer

Then contact support to initiate the domain transfer.

Prepare Domain and Services in Control Panel

Add External Domain

First, add the domain as an external domain in the Control Panel. The domain remains registered with the current provider.

Open DomainsExternal Domains and follow the displayed steps.

Warning: Do not use the option with nameserver change for preparation. Use the method with subdomain or text file. An early nameserver change can interrupt existing services.

Prepare DNS Records

Retrieve all required DNS records from the current provider, especially:

  • A Records
  • MX Records
  • TXT Records
  • SRV Records, if applicable

Then add these entries in the Control Panel under DomainsDNS for the affected domain.

A and MX records only need to be transferred if the website or email service should continue to point to the previous services.

Create Email Addresses and Mailboxes

If you want to keep email addresses from the previous provider, create them in the Control Panel before switching.

Open WebhostingEmail Mailboxes and create the required mailboxes.

Then create the required email addresses under Domains → desired domain → Email and link them to the appropriate mailboxes.

Transfer Website

Transfer the web data via FTP to your webspace.

If your website uses a database, export it from the previous provider and import it at easyname via phpMyAdmin.

If you need assistance, you can use our Premium Services.

Start Domain Transfer

Only start the domain transfer once the website, email addresses, and DNS records are prepared.

Open DomainsTransfer Domains in the Control Panel.

Add the desired domain transfer to the shopping cart.

Enable the option Automatically configure domain(s) (recommended) during checkout.

This will switch the nameservers to easyname. If all DNS records were correctly transferred beforehand, website and email services will remain accessible.
