5 simple steps
1. Create a directory
Create your own directory for n8n. This is where all configuration files will be stored later.

You need three files in your n8n directory:
docker-compose.yml – the blueprint for the containers (n8n + PostgreSQL).env – database credentialsinit-data.sh – initialisation script for PostgreSQLYou can find the complete code for all three files in our guide.
nano /opt/containers/n8n/docker-compose.ymlImportant note regarding .yml files: Always use the space bar to indent, not tabs. Otherwise, the container will not start.
3. Customise the hostname
In docker-compose.yml, replace n8n.euredomain.de with your own (sub)domain.

Use the following command to start both containers in the background:
docker compose -f /opt/containers/n8n/docker-compose.yml up -dWhen started for the first time, n8n configures itself. This takes a few minutes.
Once the containers are running, open your subdomain in your browser. The wizard will guide you through:
