Domain registration is the process that a registrant (e.g. you) carries out with a registrar (e.g. easyname) to register a new domain (e.g. easyname.com) under a top-level domain (in this case .com). Domain registrations are always subject to a fee. By registering a domain, the registrant becomes the owner of the domain, provided that he/she registers as the owner of the domain at the time of registration. During the domain registration process, we ensure that all formal rules set by the respective registry are adhered to.

The rules depend on the respective top-level domain. Some TLDs require the domain holder to be resident in a specific country. Other TLDs require that you can present certain documents such as a copy of your ID. You can find out what these requirements are on the details page of the respective TLD. You can access this via the overview of all available top-level domains.

For the most part, we send the registration order itself to the responsible registry in real time after your domain purchase. In most cases, the domain is officially registered within a few minutes. For some TLDs such as .io (Indian Ocean) or .cx (Christmas Island), however, registration can take a few days because the relevant registries are unfortunately not yet fully automated. Depending on the TLD, it can take a few minutes or up to 7 days for your domain to be registered.

If documents are still required for domain registration, we will contact you by e-mail.

You can find more information on the details page of the respective TLD. You can access this via the overview of all available top-level domains.

Whether you can use umlauts in domains or register a domain that consists only of digits, depends on the respective top-level domain (TLD). The easiest way to check if an umlaut or digits domain can be registered with your desired TLD is to use our domaincheck. On the detail page of the respective TLD you will find even more interesting information about your desired domain.
