What would you like to transfer to easyname?

Select the product – and we'll show you the exact steps.

Transfer your domain to easyname

You’ll need the auth code from your current provider – then it’s a simple three-step process.

1
1

Request an auth code

Get the auth code (AuthInfo code) from your current provider – either via the customer portal or by submitting a support request. With some providers, you’ll find it directly in the domain settings.

2
2

Start the transfer on easyname.at

Enter your domain at easyname.com/en/domain/transfer β†’ click "Check domain" β†’ select "Transfer". Alternatively, start directly in the CloudPit via "Order domain" β†’ "Transfer".

3

Enter auth code & confirm

Enter your auth code and confirm – the transfer starts automatically.

Tip: Keep everything online during the transfer

Β

Set up your domain, email and website at easyname first – then update your nameservers and start the transfer. This way your site stays online throughout the whole process.

Transfer your website to easyname

You'll need an active hosting plan at easyname and all the files from your current site.

1
1

Get a hosting plan at easyname

First, sign up for a hosting plan at easyname – everything else builds on this.

2
2

Back up your data

Download all files (HTML, PHP, images, etc.) from your old hosting account. For CMS systems like WordPress, Joomla or Shopware, also export your database as a .sql file.

3
3

Upload your data

Connect to your new easyname hosting account via FTP or sFTP and upload all files. You'll find your FTP credentials in the CloudPit under "FTP users". Alternatively, transfer via SSH (rsync) is also possible.

4
4

Import database (if applicable)

Create a new database in the CloudPit, then import the .sql file via phpMyAdmin or using a MySQL command via SSH. Note: only MySQL backups are supported.

Tip

Upload your files to the new webspace before updating your nameservers. This lets you test everything without your current site going offline for visitors.

Migrate your email accounts

To make sure not a single email gets lost, the right order of steps is essential.

1
1

Set up your email account with easyname

Create your email addresses in your easyname account before updating your nameservers. This way the new mailbox is ready as soon as the switch happens.

2
2

Back up emails locally

Export existing emails from your old mailbox – e.g. as .mbox or .eml files via your email client – and import them into your new easyname mailbox.

3
3

Update your nameservers

Only once the new mailbox is fully set up, switch your nameservers to easyname. This keeps mail delivery running without interruption.

Order matters

Β

Set up your mailbox first, update nameservers last – that's the key to a seamless email migration

Migrating WordPress to easyname

Back up your files and database, then upload both to easyname – that’s how the WordPress migration works.

1
1

Backing up WordPress files

Download all WordPress files (including wp-content, themes and plugins) from the old server via FTP.

2
2

Export the database

Export the WordPress database as an .sql file – either via phpMyAdmin with your current provider or using a backup plugin directly within WordPress.

3
3

Upload files to easyname

Connect to the new easyname webspace via FTP and upload all WordPress files to the correct directory.

4
4

Import the database & update wp-config.php

Create a new database in CloudPit, import the .sql file via phpMyAdmin and adjust the database connection in wp-config.php.

Tip

Test your WordPress installation before you change the nameservers. That way, visitors will always see the working site – never a half-finished migration.

Not necessarily. If you follow the correct procedure – first set everything up with easyname, then change the nameservers and start the domain transfer – your website will remain accessible throughout the process. Our article on transferring domains without service interruptions explains the process in detail.

The auth code (also known as the AuthInfo code) is a security key required for every domain transfer. You can obtain it from your current provider – either via the customer portal or by submitting a support request. With some providers, you’ll find it directly in the domain settings.

If you follow the correct order – set up your email account with easyname first, then change the nameservers – no emails will be lost and your email service will continue seamlessly. You can find all the details in our email migration guide.

This depends on the domain extension and your previous provider. For most extensions, a transfer takes between a few hours and up to seven working days. To ensure your website remains accessible during this time, we recommend setting it up on easyname in advance and only then starting the transfer.

Yes – your email address remains unchanged as long as you bring your domain with you. You simply set up the same address as a new mailbox with easyname. Changing providers does not alter the address itself.

We recommend switching first and only then cancelling your contract with your old provider. This ensures that your domain, website and emails are fully set up and accessible at easyname before you terminate your old contract.
