Note: Upon request, we will handle the entire domain and service transfer for you as part of our Premium Services. Together with you, we will first check whether a migration without interruptions is possible and then carry out all necessary steps for you.
If you want to transfer your domain, including websites and email addresses, to easyname without any service outages, there is a certain order that should be followed—both in CloudPit and our legacy Control Panel. This article describes the necessary steps for both customer interfaces.
1. I manage my domains in CloudPit
1.3 Email addresses & mailboxes
1.5 Domain transfer & nameserver change
2. I manage my domains in the legacy Control Panel
2.3 Email addresses & mailboxes
2.5 Domain transfer & nameserver change
Add your domain, which is still with another provider, as an external domain at easyname. To do this, in your easyname CloudPit account, next to your web hosting contract, click the [MORE] button and select the submenu → [Add external domain].
In the following window, you will be shown a TXT DNS record tailored to your account, which you must enter in the DNS zone with your current provider. This entry always begins with site-verification= and should be entered exactly as specified in the assistant.
As soon as the DNS record is correctly propagated, you can enter the domain name in the input field and click the [+Verify ownership] button. You can check the current propagation status with tools like https://whatsmydns.net.
If you have set the TXT DNS record correctly and it is properly propagated, a success message should appear immediately. If not, check whether the TXT DNS record for the specified (sub-) domain is correctly propagated and, if necessary, make corrections with your current DNS provider.
To correctly set up your external domain for use with our web and mail services, click the [MORE] button next to the newly added external domain in the web hosting management interface and in the context menu select → [Set up external domain].
Our assistant will now ask whether you want to transfer DNS management to CloudPit or keep it with your current provider. For a service interruption-free domain transfer, select to keep DNS management with your current provider.
You can now copy the DNS records and enter them with your previous provider. For example, if you only want to use our mail service, the following entries must be set:
| NAME | TYPE | TTL | PRIO | VALUE |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| mail-in | A | 600 | adopt from assistant | |
| MX | 600 | 10 | mx03.secure-mailgate.com | |
| MX | 600 | 10 | mx04.secure-mailgate.com | |
| TXT | 600 | v=spf1 a mx include:secure-mailgate.com ~all |
You can request the DKIM DNS record from support after one day and then enter it into your DNS zone.
If you have email addresses with your current provider, you must also create them anew at easyname. To do this, in the web hosting management interface, go to [Email] → [Email addresses] and create the desired addresses.

Add your domain, which is still with another provider, as an external domain at easyname. Go to your easyname Control Panel and click [Domains] → [External Domains] and follow the instructions provided there. Important: Here you must select either the subdomain or text file method, but not the option to change the nameservers, as this could take your website offline!
Now you must find out the current DNS records of type "A", "MX", and—if available—"TXT" and "SRV" from your current provider, and then replicate them in the easyname Control Panel under [Domains] → yourdomain.com → DNS. Important: You only need to replicate the "A" and "MX" records if hosting and mail service remain with the old provider.
If you have email addresses with your current provider, you must now also create them anew at easyname. First, create a separate mailbox for each user by clicking [Webhosting] and selecting the [Email mailboxes] option.
Then create the email addresses: In the Control Panel, go to [Domains] → yourdomain.com → Email. You can now set up the desired email addresses and specify which mailbox they should use.
If you intend to migrate websites to easyname, it is necessary to upload the web data as well as—if available—the databases to easyname. The upload of web data can be done, for example, via FTP, while the database can be imported via phpMyAdmin.
If you need assistance with the website transfer, we can offer this as part of our Premium Services.
Once all your services have been transferred to easyname, you can initiate the transfer of your domain to easyname. Please navigate in your Control Panel to [Domains] → [Transfer domains].
Once you have placed the desired domain transfer in the cart, please activate the option "Automatically configure domain(s) (recommended)". This will switch the nameservers of your domain from the previous provider to the easyname nameservers. Since you have already adopted all DNS settings from the old provider in step 2, there will be no interruption to the domain services.
